Port Fish Day 2002
The Smithereens

Smithereens PhotoTHE SMITHEREENS, widely popular on MTV and top 40 radio in the 1980s and early 1990s, will headline the We Energies / 94.5 WKTI Main Stage at Fish Day 2002.  Influenced by the 60s pop of the Beatles, Beach Boys and the Byrds, the Smithereens formed in New Jersey in 1980.  After recording and releasing a number of somewhat obscure albums in the early 80s, they signed to Enigma Records in 1986 and released their first major label album Especially for You.  This album included their first hit single and MTV breakthrough video Blood and Roses as well as the hit Behind the Wall of Sleep.  This major label debut was followed by non-stop touring.

Since 1986 The Smithereens have recorded and released 10 albums, most of which were released on Capitol Records following their debut on Enigma Records.  The bands biggest top 40 hit came in 1992 with the song Too Much Passion from their album Blow Up.   Other hit songs from their career include A Girl Like You, Only a Memory and Yesterday Girl.   Their music was also featured on several movie soundtracks including the teen-horror movie Class of Nuke Em High.  In addition to his work with the group, singer/songwriter and guitarist Pat DiNizio released a solo albumin 1997.  The Smithereens continue to tour extensively and are constantly recording new material.  Dont miss this rockin close to Fish Day 2002!
